Europe B2C Catalogs Next to the B2B print on demand documents, Philips Consumer Luminaires wanted an efficient solution for the layout of their B2C catalogs. More product collections, more languages (more than 20!), more technical features to mention and still the same requirement for perfect layouts while maintaining high productivity standards. This was obtained with a combined Leaflet/Indesign workflow. Based on a basic storyboard defined in Excel, all relevant data and pictures are gathered in real time from the product and image databases. Leaflet templates use sophisticated calculated fields in order to build up the feature tables derived from text stored in the database. A lot of inline pictures and shapes are used in order to keep technical data both attractive and easy to understand for any reader. Documents can be output to PDF or Indesign. Both outputs are an exact copy of the pages obtained in Leaflet. The Indesign copy is however optimized for later edit and update with retention of Master Pages (even with dynamic data), styles, colors and table structures. In the Indesign document the designer can unleash all its creativity in repositionning/resizing the graphical objects on the spread. Mutiple layers are used for documents to be translated. All strings existing in the translation memory are automatically processed. Text that remains to be translated is easily identified by the human translator.
